NSW: Firefighters enter New Year working through the night

SYDNEY, Jan 1 AAP - NSW firefighters entered the New Year working through the nightin preparation for predicted hot, windy weather today.

Many firefighters spent the night carrying out "aggressive" backburning to containthe estimated 100 fires burning around the state, said NSW Rural Fire Service spokesmanJohn Winter.

But while some of the firefighters took a small break overnight, they will have notime to relax over the next few days, Mr Winter said.
