Fed: Govt must release dairy report: Labor

CANBERRA, Jan 12 AAP - An independent report into the deregulation of the dairy industry
must be made public as a matter of urgency, federal opposition agriculture spokesman Gavan
O'Connor said today.

The government had been sitting on the report since mid-December while farmers were
facing growing problems a difficult adjustment to the new regime, Mr O'Connor said.

Farm incomes were falling, with farmers reporting they now receive less than 30 cents
a litre for their milk, down from 45 cents before deregulation.
